Probably now the most popular hybrid barley with good rhynchosporium resistance and highest standing power rating. Better grain quality than volume with a higher specific weight and less screening loss.
Very high yields in all regions. High rhynchosporium resistance. Continues to do well in the Pearce Seeds south west trials. Slightly shorter than Bazooka but still tall so like all the hybrids will be effective on helping to reduce black grass. Disease resistance gives overall good scores.
Newly added to the recommended list for 2019. Higher yielding and higher specific weight compared to Bazooka. The highest yielding winter barley variety in the Pearce Seeds trials in 2018. Stiff straw and has shown very low levels of lodging.
Newly added to the recommended list in 2019. A high yielding two row feed barley. An early maturing variety with stiff straw. Also a good specific weight combined with a good disease resistance package.
Conventional - KWS B105 x KWS Salsa
High yielding two row on the RL list and in Pearce trials for 2017. Short, very stiff straw, with high resistance to lodging and brown rust but susceptible to mildew which needs watching. Resistant to common strains of barley mosaic virus. It performs consistently across all regions of the UK.
Conventional - (Eden x Carat) x Saffron
Maybe not the top yielding variety on the NL list but does well in the south west with one the best grain quality of the winter barleys with superb specific weight. Sells out every year due to its consistent yields, bold grain and longish stiff straw. Good resistance to brown rust, net blotch and high lodging score but it is susceptible to rhynchosporium and mildew so needs watching. Resistant to common strains of barley mosaic virus.
