Very high yields with bold grain early maturity and short stiff straw. Outstanding kernel content – it is the only variety on the AHDB Recommended List trials with a score above 80% and is receiving strong interest from millers for its excellent grain qualities.
The UK spring oats have been marginalised to some extent by the higher performing winter crop. However they provide a useful spring option. Aspen gives the highest yielding husked spring oat with yields 7% above Firth. It has good grain quality with a high kernel content, good specific weight and low screenings. Susceptible to crown rust – but note the same score as Firth. Early maturity and with relatively short stiff straw.
