Post Milking
There are a range of active ingredients for teat dipping and the most recently developed is chlorine dioxide. As an active ingredient chlorine dioxide, in the right formulation, can provide extremely high levels of disinfection alongside great economy of use. The mode of action for chlorine dioxide is that its activity is as a gas, so an activator is needed to "activate" the product before use.
Some formulations of chlorine dioxide whilst claiming to be stable for very long periods post-agitation, do not in fact retain the efficacy of the chlorine dioxide beyond a few days. These products can be identified through the use of a SECOND active ingredient within the mix and/or observable "blowing up" of the chemical drum within a few hours of mixing or activation.
Iodine
Due to the use of active or "free" iodine, some iodine-based teat dips can be unstable in formulation, resulting in fast degeneration of the available iodine. To counter this many products include very high initial levels of iodine, however, such high levels can be too aggressive on the teats. To counteract this, high levels of emollients are added to aid skin condition. Unfortunately, these levels work to reduce the efficacy of the available iodine. Our range of iodine-based teat dips are formulated differently, to avoid this vicious cycle.
Our entire range of iodine teat dips contain a unique, patented iodine complex which is proven and certified to be stable in formulation for an extended period. This means that an optimum and non-aggressive level of 3,000 ppm can be included alongside optimum levels of quality emollients. This formulation means that a pH of 5.2 is achieved which also contributes to excellent teat condition.

Chlorhexidine
Chlorhexidine has a mode of action that disrupts bacteria cells by damaging their cell membrane. Chlorhexidine dips are generally pH neutral so again are favourably in situations where maintenance of teat condition is important or where skin condition needs to be improved. It has two key properties:
- It is non-irritating which has a positive effect on teat condition.
- It has a residual effect, resulting in an extended period of kill after the teats are dipped which is crucial to ensure teats are protected between milking's.
Kenocidin
Kenocidin is a unique, medicinally registered, viscous teat dipping product that is based on chlorhexidine. It also contains Menthae Arvensis which has conditioning and anti-inflammatory properties. The benefits to the cow are its superior teat disinfection alongside excellent teat condition. Kenocidin (Spray & Dip - Ready to Use) is available where a high volume 1000L IBC is needed.
- Spray and Dip formulation for flexibility in the parlour
- 5 mg/g Chlorhexidine digluconate for fast, effective pathogen kill
- Very high level of emollients to maintain and improve teat condition
- Medicinally registered in the UK
- Contains Menthae Arvensis for its teat conditioning and anti-inflammatory properties
Kenomint
- Spray and Dip formulation for flexibility in the parlour
- 5 mg/g Chlorhexidine digluconate for fast, effective pathogen kill
- Very high level of emollients to maintain and improve teat condition
- Contains Menthae arvensis for its teat conditioning and anti-inflammatory properties
Lactic acid
Lactic acid-based teat dips are well known for key features that bring measurable benefits to dairy cows. Firstly, lactic acid is an extremely fast, broad spectrum germicide meaning that it acts quickly to kill the bacteria that might infect the teat. It is also highly effective on viruses. Secondly, despite being an acid it is not aggressive to teats.
Kenomix
Kenomix is our unique Chlorine Dioxide post milking product. Chlorine Dioxide is the most recently introduced active ingredient for teat disinfection and has a mode of action that controls pathogens using a gas, released on use. Chlorine Dioxide dips are the most popular type used in the USA and there are several Chlorine Dioxide products available in the UK, all of which need to be "activated" (mixed) before use. However, most of these become unstable once mixed meaning that the Chlorine Dioxide levels drop fast. These products can be identified by the use of a second active ingredient to give some level of kill beyond working life of the Chlorine Dioxide.
- Contains Chloride Dioxide - An extremely effective disinfectant
- Kenomix is stable throughout its 26 day life once-mixed
- Contains high levels of quality emollients
- Non-drip formulation
- Maintains and improves teat condition
- Barrier-forming with very low consumption
Kenolac
Kenolac is a combination of lactic acid, humectants and covering agents. Lactic acid is a very effective germicide, penetrating the lipid membrane of bacteria and depleting cellular energy. It also has an antiviral mechanism, deactivating proteins and lipid coats of viruses, inhibiting their ability to infect. Kenolac is tested according to European standards EN1040 and EN1656 against contagious and environmental pathogens and is the first registered dip for fly control and organic situations (EC #834/2007)
- Contains Lactic acid for excellent germicidal activity against bacteria and viruses
- Includes covering agents to enhance the residual action on the teat skin
- Registered and approved in the UK as a fly repellent dip
- Contains sunscreen, protecting teats from exposure
- Organic approved (EC 834/2007)
- Available in spray and dip formulations
Kenostart
Kenostart is based on a unique iodine complex which produces stable, active iodine. In a European trial, Kenostart was used during 8 weeks to replace a standard 5000 ppm Iodine product. Over the course of 8 weeks, teat score improved from average 3 to less than 1.5. This is because many iodine-based products cannot tolerate normal levels of emollients as they contribute to the breakdown of the iodine in their formulation. Kenostart's unique iodine complex allows high levels of quality iodine, resulting in it outperforming other iodine-based products.
- Medicinally registered in the UK
- Contains all the features and benefits of Kenodin spray and dip
