As members of the BPTA (British Potato Trade Association), we are now supplying seed potatoes. There are many varieties to choose from depending on your end market. Nearly all varieties will be supplied in 1t or 1.25t bags, although some varieties can be available in 25kg bags. The main delivery window of seed is between January and March depending on your storage facilities. There are varieties which are dual purpose (Maincrop & chipping) for example Maris Piper & Sagitta which will help create more end market use options for you. COUNTRYSIDE STEWARDSHIP Pearce Seeds is offering a service for the preparation and submission of Countryside Stewardship Scheme (CSS) applications. DEFRA is encouraging farmers and landowners to join the CSS with start dates in January 2023 and 2024. The Basic Payment (BPS) has started to decline and will be phased out by 2028. Capital Items and a wide range of options are available in Stewardship Schemes, unlike the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI). CSS applicants have been assured that there will be no penalty or disadvantage of being in a CSS when the Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMS) are introduced, and options can be utilised alongside a CSS agreement; so long as they are not the same options and regarded as double funding. The CSS aims to conserve and restore wildlife habitats and historical features in the landscape. Whilst at the same time reducing risk of floods and widespread water pollution from agriculture. There are different options within the scheme, to suit individual farm businesses and the opportunity to apply for significant capital grants. We can prepare, submit and provide ongoing support as required with all CSS and ELMS applications.
