2021 Autumn Seed Catalogue
19 WINTER RYE Widely grown in Northern Europe, Hybrid Rye is proving to be an increasingly popular choice for improving the performance of AD (Anaerobic Digestion) Plants. With its excellent yield, flexible drilling dates, vigorous growth habit and very early maturity it provides growers with the opportunity for increased flexibility in terms of the position of energy crops in their rotation as well as reducing the risk of being able to achieve respectable harvest yields and crop quality. Tried and tested in the UK, this variety holds a large percentage of the UK hybrid rye market. A stable choice for new entrants into hybrid rye, or growers who aim for consistency. This variety is suitable for both grain production and whole crop, holding a 6% higher yield than control varieties on the descriptive list. With a good agronomic package and excellent spring vigour to add to the high fresh weight seen when foraging, there’s no wonder why growers come back to the variety year on year. Hybrid SU PERFORMER The variety for whole crop. SU Arvid is on its second commercial year after a strong introduction in 2020. This variety has shaken up the AD market, with specific quality to increase gas yield and maximise on return for both plant managers and growers. In UK trials, this variety has continued to exhibit the highest methane content and fresh weight output of all varieties on offer. With new improved genetics, SU Arvid also has an increased resistance to brown rust, as well as an excellent standing ability. This variety will ensure the highest output, for both grower and end user. Hybrid SU ARVID The early wholecrop option for the north. SU Pluralis is new to the market for 2021 with limited seed available. This variety has exhibited stand out performance up in Scotland, with early maturity and the highest lodging resistance exhibited in replicated trials. With its early maturity, this variety can help spread the workload, improving efficiency and making sure harvest can be made when the quality is capital. With new genetics and therefore improved brown rust resistance, this variety also has an agronomic package suited to grain production for more southern regions. Hybrid SU PLURALIS Although it is the AD market that has driven the growth of rye the crop also offers potential as a whole crop alternative for livestock enterprises. Conventional rye offers growers an alternative to the hybrids – ideal for those requiring competitive winter cover, for farmers that may wish to double crop or need an early cut of silage. Very early wholecrop harvest. Ideal for energy crops. Tall variety with very high yield potential giving good resistance against mildew, brown rust and Rhynchosporium. GENERATOR
