Pearce Seeds are hosting a Seminar on Improving Herd Performance & Efficiency with Science based Nutrition on Thursday 27th November 2014 at our offices in Sherborne. Presentations will be made by Professor Jon Huxley on The role of body condition score management in lameness control and Dr Brian Vernon Bsc (Hons) on Herd performance and efficiency with science based nutrition.

Professor Jon Huxley is currently Professor of Cattle Health Production, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences at Nottingham University. He is a research veterinary clinician specialising in the endemic diseases of dairy cattle, particularly lameness and mastitis and the impact of the housed environment on animal health and welfare. Lameness is a significant problem in UK dairy herds. Recent studies by Professor Jon Huxley and others have demonstrated that approximately 25% of UK dairy cattle are identifiable as lame on any given day of assessment. This represents a significant health and welfare issue and causes marked production losses.
One aspect of his work is to improve our understanding of the structure and function of the digital cushion and its role in lameness prevention.

Dr Brian Vernon has worked in the feed industry, around the World, since gaining his Ph D in 1977 from Nottingham University. He has a wide knowledge and experience in raw materials, analysis, feed production, legislation and animal performance. Dr Brian Vernon is recognised as a leading nutritional expert in dairy, pigs, horses and elephants. Dr Vernon has published numerous academic and commercial articles and sits on a variety of nutrient For more derequirement committees. He has the ability to present detailed science in a simple and practical manner.
